Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what evidence he has of investment by Governments of other member countries of the EEC in their domestic textile industries under schemes which have not received the approval of the European Commission in each of the years since 1975.

Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what consultation he has now had with representatives of the United Kingdom textile industry concerning the decision of the European Commission that the CLOFT scheme for investment in a new technology for small textile firms could not be implemented.

Representatives of the industries covered by the proposed CLOFT scheme have been provided with the full text of the Commission's decision. Arrangements have been made for discussions to take place during the course of this month.
