Mr. Hayes

asked the Attorney-General how much his Department and that of the Lord Chancellor spent in 1983–84 on the purchase of newspapers, periodicals, books and other published reading material.

The Attorney-General

The total amount spent on such purchases in 1983–84 by my Department was £28,214.

The total amount spent on such purposes in 1983–84 by the Lord Chancellor's Department was £948,000, made up as follows:

(a) Supreme Court 247
(b) County Courts 180
(c) Crown Court 102
(d) Circuit Offices 16
(e) Headquarters 312
(f) Associated Offices 78
(g)Law Society (Legal Aid Administration) 13
