§ Sir John Farrasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will give any instance of the multi-fibre arrangement's anti-surge clause having been implemented since the arrangement was concluded; and whether he plans to implement it in the United Kingdom in the current year in relation to the imports from any particular country.
§ Mr. ChannonThere have been no cases to date of this clause having been implemented in any of the MFA signatory states. In the United Kingdom the Government have kept a close watch on import statistics of textiles and clothing, but there have as yet been no instances where the use of this clause has been justified. However, I will continue to consider any cases raised on their merits.
