HL Deb 31 October 1984 vol 456 c608WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What discussions and negotiations there have been so far concerning the future of Mendip Hospital, Wells, Somerset; when they expect that definite decisions will be taken about this hospital and the related day-care services for patients in North-East Somerset; and what steps are being taken to maintain the morale of the hospital staff in the interim period until decisions are reached.

Lord Glenarthur

The South Western and Wessex Regional Health Authorities are currently discussing the future of mental illness services in Somerset and parts of Avon. The future of Mendip Hospital will form part of these discussions. The authorities are aiming to agree a clear strategy for inclusion in their 10-year strategic plans which are to be submitted to the department by 31st March 1985. The Somerset Health Authority is ensuring that the interests of the staff at Mendip are taken into account in the process.
