HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 c995W
Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many academic staff in universities, polytechnics and higher education colleges have been made redundant or have taken early retirement since 1979; and how many in each category had tenured posts.

Mr. Brooke

Only partial information is available because of the difficulty of isolating information about different types of establishment. No information is available about the numbers leaving who had tenured posts. The available information is as follows:

Notes

1. E=Early retirement. R=Redundancy.

2. Column 3 gives information for all further education colleges whether or not engaged in advanced further education.

3. Information about some local education authority maintained colleges is not included as it cannot readily be isolated in the records of the teachers' superannuation scheme.
