HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 cc1093-4W
Sir Hugh Rossi

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what progress has been made towards making more comprehensive guidance available on current benefit provision for disabled people.

Mr. Newton

My hon. Friend will recall that, as Minister for the Disabled, he set up a joint working party of DHSS officials and members of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations to consider improvements in advice on benefit provision for disabled people. As a result of their deliberations, revised simplified leaflets are already in use. In addition, a new Handbook on noncontributory benefits for disabled people is published today. It should serve as a valuable aid to disabled people and to all concerned with their interests. I have arranged for copies to be made available to hon. Members in the Vote office.
