§ Mr. Maloneasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what proposals he has to increase the provisions of cycle tracks in Scotland.
§ Mr. YoungerThe Roads (Scotland) Bill, which is awaiting Royal Assent, contains powers for roads authorities to provide cycle tracks. I expect to receive in the near future a report indentifying potential off-road cycle routes in Scotland, including the possibility of converting disused railway lines. This report, which forms part of a review of cycling in Scotland, will be issued to local authorities for information. In addition, my officials are discusing with local authorities, the Scottish Development Agency and the British Waterways Board the possible provision of a cycle track from Glasgow to Loch Lomond which would give cyclists an alternative to the busy A82 trunk road.
