Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what information he has on the circumstances of the accident on 24 September involving a Pershing II rocket at Matlanger, Germany; whether the rocket movement was part of Operation Lionheart; if he will assess the implications of the incident for nuclear rocket transportation in this country; and if he will make a statement.

Pershing H missiles played no part in Exercise Lionheart. Any incidents involving movement of Pershing II in Germany would be a matter for the United States and West German Governments, and not for Her Majesty's Government.
