§ Mr. Wareingasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action he proposes to take to ensure the maintenance of the current level of staffing of the probation service in Merseyside.
§ Mr. MellorThe level of staffing of the Merseyside probation service is primarily a matter for the Merseyside probation committee. Merseyside county council is statutorily required to defray the cost of these staff. the event of disagreement on the cost of staff other than probation officer grades, the committee or the council has the right to seek my right hon. and learned Friend's determination.
