HC Deb 23 October 1984 vol 65 c567W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will now make available low energy neutron therapy for surface tumours as a routine service within National Health Service hospitals.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

It is important that such a potentially significant development should receive proper evaluation before health service funds are committed to it. A Medical Research Council working party has already undertaken an evaluation and and comparison of the data from the trials of the cyclotron at Edinburgh and Hammersmith and its report should be available soon. Further consideration of more widespread use of low energy neutron therapy must await this Report.
