HC Deb 22 October 1984 vol 65 cc415-6W
Mr. Harvey

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what was the total number of people benefiting from special employment and training measures at the latest available date in the constituency of Clwyd, South-West or in the geographical area which corresponds most closely with that constituency; and what is the average cost per person supported under each measure.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

Comprehensive information on all schemes cannot be provided for an area corresponding to my hon. Friend's constituency. Figures are kept on differing bases for different schemes.

Information for the end of September this year on individual schemes in each case for the smallest area included in my hon. Friend's constituency is as follows:

Community Programme Clwyd 1,276
Enterprise Allowance Scheme North and Mid Wales 647

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

Between the passing of the Forest Act 1981 and 21 September 1984—the latest date for which figures are available — the Forestry Commission sold 2,267 hectares (5,602 acres) of woodland in Wales.

Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if the Forestry Commission plan to close or amalgamate any further offices in Wales over the next two years; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

Apart from the proposal already announced to close its Cardiff office, the Forestry Commission has no plans at present to close or amalgamate any more offices in Wales.
