§ Mr. Stephen Rossasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what arrangements exist between the British and French Governments concerning an early warning system covering the possibility of danger of contamination from nuclear emissions at the Cap de la Hague atomic plant.
§ Mr. WaldegraveAn agreement between the Governments of France and the United Kingdom provides for the exchange of information, without delay, following any emergency at a civil nuclear plant in France, including any at the Cap de la Hague plant, which may have radiological consequences for the United Kingdom.
Routine monitoring carried out in southern England by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food would detect any contamination from Cap de la Hague. In addition, monitoring specifically concerning Cap de la Hague discharges is carried out on behalf of the Channel Islands authorities by MAFF and the National Radiological Protection Board.
