§ Mr. Robert Banksasked the Secretary of State for Defence (1) what are the anticipated savings in manpower and costs through the proposed reorganisation of his Department;
(2) if he will list the senior posts that will be phased out under the proposals for reorganising his Department and the consequent financial savings.
§ Mr. ButlerI refer my hon. Friend to the White Paper, "The Central Organisation for Defence" (Cmnd. 9315). Paragraph 16 indicates the net savings in senior posts to be achieved as a result of the reorganisation. There will be further savings at the lower levels after the new organisation is introduced at the start of 1985 and new working procedures have been established. It is too early, therefore, to give the associated manpower numbers and costs.
