HC Deb 30 November 1984 vol 68 cc610-1W
Mr. McCusker

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what is the amount of subsidy paid per annum to provide school meals in Northern Ireland;

(2) how many boarding pupils there are in schools in Northern Ireland;

(3) what is the estimated cost per annum of subsidising the cost of midday meals to boarding pupils in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Scott

Estimated net recurrent expenditure on the provision of school meals in the financial year 1984–85 is £22.5 million. There, were 2,366 boarding pupils in the 1982–83 school year; it is estimated that it would cost approximately £120,000 per year to subsidise their midday meals.
