HC Deb 30 November 1984 vol 68 cc619-20W
Mr. Chris Smith

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the salary paid to the chairman of the Manpower Services Commission for the financial year 1983–84; what is the salary to be paid to the current chairman for the financial year 1984–85; and if he will express this as a percentage increase on the salary paid in 1983–84.

Mr. King

The salary of the chairman of the Manpower Services Commission for the financial year 1983–84 was £40,145.82. On the basis of the salaries authorised following the Top Salary Review Body's latest recommendation, the corresponding figure for the 1984–85 financial year would have been £44,644.17. This represents an increase of 11.2 per cent, over the 1983–84 total. The current chairman, Mr. Bryan Nicholson, was appointed on 22 October 1984 on secondment from Rank Xerox Limited for a three year term. It has been agreed that Rank Xerox will be reimbursed for his services on the basis of the authorised salary rates for the appointment.
