HC Deb 30 November 1984 vol 68 c620W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proposals he has made to the European Economic Community about measures to reduce the surplus production and consequent expense of disposal and storage; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jopling

I have consistently urged in the Council of Ministers the continuing need to restrain CAP prices, and to apply the Council's agreement on guarantee thresholds, as the best ways of containing CAP costs and bringing about a bettter balance between supply and demand. The Community has agreed on a financial guideline for agriculture designed to control the growth of CAP spending, and we shall be pressing for its effective application in next year's CAP price fixing negotiations.
