§ Mr. RifkindThere are no separate figures available for the cost of export promotion alone by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in the countries of the European Community and the European Free Trade Association. The total cost of commercial work performed by Her Majesty's embassies and subordinate posts in the European Community including export promotion, trade policy and protection and the promotion of inward and outward investment was approximately £11.3 million in the financial year 1983–84. For the rest of western Europe the equivalent figures was £5.4 million.
