§ Mr. Tony Lloydasked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) when he expects the results of the social security review to be published;
(2) if he will ensure the full publication of the results of the social security review;
(3) if he will ensure that adequate time is made available for public discussion on the conclusion of the social security reviews prior to the introduction of any necessary legislation;
(4) if he will ensure that no steps are taken to implement the recommendations of the social security review until they have been debated in the House.
§ Mr. NewtonWe expect to publish our conclusions and proposals in the early part of next year. This will provide a basis for further public discussion; and the hon. Member will be aware that no proposals requiring legislation could be implemented without Parliament having the opportunity to debate them.
§ Mr. Kennedyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether his publication of the finding of the social security review will come in the form of a White or a Green Paper; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. NewtonThe form in which the Government's conclusions and proposals for change are to be published has not yet been decided.
