HC Deb 26 November 1984 vol 68 c345W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the amounts of cash given to the Development Board for Rural Wales in each of the years 1979–80 to 1984–85; if he will compare the 1979–80 and 1984–85 amounts indicating the change in real terms; when he proposes to announce the board's budget for 1985–86; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

Funds, including housing subsidy, provided or expected to be provided to the Development Board for Rural Wales are, in cash terms:

£ million
1979–80 10.0
1980–81 7.4
1981–82 8.2
1982–83 8.9
1983–84 9.2
1984–85 9.7

Comparison in the terms asked for is not directly possible, Government programmes are no longer planned on a constant price basis. However, by applying the gross domestic product deflator and at 1983–84 prices, the figures for 1979–80 and 1984–85 would be £14.5 million and £9.3 million respectively. The figure for 1979–80 includes the special supplementary resources made available in that year.

The board's budget for 1985–86 will be published in the 1985–86 supply estimates.
