asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he expects to be in a position to announce the Government's response to the recommendations of the Auld committee on possible amendments to the Shops Act 1950.

My right hon. and learned Friend will not be in a position to make such a statement until we have given careful consideration to the recommendations of the Auld committee and to the reactions to this report.

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) when he will repeal or amend section 47 of the Shops Act 1950 in order to permit Sunday trading;

(2) what proposals he has to amend the Shops Act 1950.
