HC Deb 19 November 1984 vol 68 c45W
Mr. Hannam

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the number of people currently in possession of an orange badge; and what this number was in March 1983.

Mrs. Chalker

Disabled persons' parking permits—orange badges — are issued by local authorities, and records are not maintained centrally on a continuing basis. At the time of a national census on 1 January 1983, there were 682,000 valid badges in Great Britain. I regret that up to date information could not be obtained without disproportionate cost. If my hon. Friend is concerned about the numbers of badges in a particular area, may I suggest that he approach the local authority concerned.
