HC Deb 19 November 1984 vol 68 cc69-70W
Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services why his Department is no longer able to obtain and publish details of nurse training in the private sector.

Mr. John Patten

In the past such information was obtainable from the General Nursing Council for England and Wales.

Responsibility for the provision of nurse training was taken over by the English National Board for Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting in July 1983. Since then the board has been developing a computer system for record keeping and this information has not been readily available.

I understand that statistical information—including details of nurse training in the private sector—from the new system will be produced annually from March 1985.
