Mr. Austin Mitchell

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) what was the balance of manufactured trade with the rest of the world in 1976 and 1983;

(2) if he will give the deficit in manufactured trade with the EEC in 1976 and 1983 and his estimate for 1984.

Mr. Fletcher

The information for 1976 and 1983 is in the table. In the first nine months of 1984, the deficit on trade in manufactures with the European Community was £6.1 billion on the balance of payments basis.
