HC Deb 19 November 1984 vol 68 cc52-3W
Mr. Best

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is his policy regarding the marketing of products designed to reduce blood alcohol levels in the context of his responsibilities for health and safety at work; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

I am aware of the detrimental effects of excessive drinking at work. The Health and Safety Executive cooperated in the publication in 1981 of a guidance booklet on steps which could be taken jointly by managements and trade unions to assist the problem drinker at work. The guidance aims to reduce or eliminate problem drinking. It makes no recommendations about the use of products designed to mitigate the effects of alcohol already consumed.
