HC Deb 16 November 1984 vol 67 c374W
Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the present rate of growth of the gross national product of Wales; and how this compares with the figure for the United Kingdom as a whole.

Mr. Peter Rees

The latest available estimates of gross domestic product at current prices for Wales and comparative figures for the United Kingdom are:

£ million
Wales United Kingdom
1978 6,242 146,962
1979 7,115 170,174
1980 8,085 198,440
1981 8,580 214,793
1982 9,131 232,503

Regional estimates are made in current prices only. Care should therefore be taken in comparing the derived growth rates from the above figures, because they include the effect both of price rises and of changes in real output.
