§ Mr. Greenwayasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how (a) the consultant psychiatrist and (b) the probation officer exercised their supervision of Mr. Edward Hopson, following his conditional discharge from Broadmoor in April 1982; how often he was seen by each; how many reports his Department received from each; on what dates; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. MellorI understand from the supervising consultant psychiatrist that he saw Mr. Hopson at Broadmoor on seven occasions after his conditional discharge. He carried out his supervision by means of these consultations and by regular contact with the supervising probation officers. My right hon. and learned Friend received seven reports from him in April, August and November 1982, in February, August and December 1983 and in June 1984.
I understand from the Chief Probation Officer of Middlesex that the probation officers responsible for Mr. Hopson's supervision maintained regular contact with him, on an average of once every two weeks, by interviews with him at their offices or at his home. Until March 1983, Mr. Hopson was living at a hostel and in daily contact with experienced hostel staff. Reports were received from supervising probation officers by my right hon. and learned Friend in June, August and November 1982, in February, March, July and November 1983, and in March and September 1984.
