§ Mr. D. E. Thomasasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether the reservation on the Council of Europe recommendation on training of teachers for a multicultural society put forward by the United Kingdom Government at the 46th session of the Council represents a change in his Department's policy on multicutural education; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. DunnNo. The Government's reservation on the Council of Europe recommendation on "The training of teachers in education for intercultural understanding, notably in a context of migration" was consistent with existing Government policy. My right hon. Friend is looking to the committee of inquiry into the education of children from ethnic minority groups, chaired by Lord Swann, for further advice on this area of policy. The committee's report is expected shortly.
