Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many (a) one-parent families, (b) pensioners and (c) unemployed received supplementary benefits in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983.

The numbers in receipt of supplementary benefit at November-December each year were as follows:

Mr. Whitney

The number of claimants receiving supplementary benefit at December 1966 was 2.5 million, compared with 4.3 million (provisional) at December 1983.
