HC Deb 13 November 1984 vol 67 cc211-2W
Mr. Ernie Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the current number of nurses in geriatrics and psychogeriatrics in the Tayside health board area; what were the corresponding figures for 1980; and how many vacancies currently exist.

Mr. John MacKay

At 8 November 1984, 1,513 nursing staff (whole-time equivalent) were employed in geriatric and psycho-geriatric hospitals and wards in the Tayside health board area. The corresponding figure in 1980 was 1,434.

Geriatric and psycho-geriatric patients are nursed also in general beds in general and teaching hospitals and others are cared for in the community but the number of nursing staff involved cannot be identified separately.

There were 17 nursing staff vacancies at 8 November 1984 in geriatrics and psycho-geriatrics.
