HC Deb 12 November 1984 vol 67 c117W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many teachers were employed in (a) the primary and (b) the secondary sector in Wales in 1979–80; how many such posts exist in 1984–85; and what is his estimate of the primary and secondary teaching force in Wales in 1985–86.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The number of teachers employed in 1979–80 is shown in table 10.01 of "Statistics of Education in Wales", No. 8, 1983, a copy of which is in the Library. Information in respect of 1984–85 is not yet available. The Government's expenditure plans, as outlined in Cmnd. 9143, assume that the number of full-time equivalent nursery, primary and secondary teachers will be 26,100 in 1985–86.
