§ Mr. Wareingasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what plans he has to carry out the recommendations of the Kilbrandon inquiry; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. HurdI have noted with interest the publication on 1 November of the report of the independent inquiry under Lord Kilbrandon. The report is one of a number of interesting documents which have been published in recent months representing different views and outlooks. I welcome the concern expressed in all these documents to find a way forward for Northern Ireland. This can only be achieved if any proposals which are made are practical and likely to be broadly acceptable to all those committed to constitutional and peaceful progress. The proposals in the Kilbrandon report and in other published documents need to be seen against this background as talks continue between those involved in Northern Ireland in the period ahead.
