HC Deb 25 May 1984 vol 60 cc571-2W
Mr. David Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many schemes and houses Glasgow district council has applied to have designated as having electric heating systems which are disproportionately expensive to run; how many have been approved; how many have been rejected; and when decisions on the remaining applications will be announced.

Dr. Boyson

Thirty-nine lists of properties with electric heating systems have been submitted by the Glasgow district council for consideration for desingation as disproportionately expensive to heat for the purposes of supplementary benefit estate rate heating additions. Seventeen certificates have been issued on behalf of my right hon. Friend designating a number of these properties, a small number have been refused, and further properties are under consideration on which a decision will he taken as soon as possible. I understand that the Glasgow district council estimates that a total of about 40,000 properties are included on the lists submitted for consideration that about 6,500 properties are covered by the certificates so far issued.
