Mr. Alfred Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many (a) men and (b) women applied in each of the years from 1980 to 1983 for the domestic care allowance, sometimes called the private domestic needs allowance, the discretionary allowance that can be paid by local offices of his Department to disabled people on supplementary benefit; and how many and what percentages of these applications were successful.

Information is not readily available on the breakdown between male and female claimants. There is no requirement for claimants to apply for additional requirements, entitlement to which is assessed as part of the overall claim to benefit, and no record is kept of any such applications.
