Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many claims for repayment of money wrongly deducted from supplementary benefit on grounds of voluntary unemployment have been received by local offices of his Department in Fife as a result of the advertising campaign in March; and how many payments had been made prior to the advertising campaign as a result of the check on current files and the publicity for dormant cases, respectively.

Dr. Boyson

No payments in respect of money wrongly deducted from supplementary benefits on grounds of voluntary unemployment have been made by the Department's local offices in Fife to former claimants following the advertising campaign in March or the earlier publicity. The number of unsuccessful inquiries made is not recorded. Thirty and one payments respectively resulted from the check of current files by the Dunfermline and Cowdenbeath local offices.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many claims for repayment of money wrongly deducted from supplementary benefit on grounds of voluntary unemployment have been received by local offices of his Department in Coventry, and how many payments have resulted from these claims in the last six months for which figures are available.

In the six month period ending 10 April 1984 seven payments have been made by the Department's Coventry, east local office and 33 by Coventry, west local office in respect of money wrongly deducted from supplementary benefits on grounds of voluntary unemployment. The number of unsuccessful inquiries made is not recorded.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many claims for repayment of money wrongly deducted from supplementary benefit on grounds of voluntary unemployment have been received by local offices of his Department in the Leeds metropolitan council area as a result of the advertising campaign in March; how many payments have resulted from these claims; and how many such payments have been made prior to the advertising campaign as a result of the check of current files and the publicity for dormant cases, respectively.
