HC Deb 24 May 1984 vol 60 cc450-1W
Mr. Janner

asked the Attorney-General, pursuant to his reply of 14 May, Official Report, column 2, whether the policy statement or the guidance and instructions issued on 6 March included a commitment to the carrying out of ethnic monitoring, as recommended by the code of the Commission for Racial Equality, which came into effect on 1 April.

The Attorney-General

No.

Mr. Janner

asked the Attorney-General whether the monitoring function envisaged for the equal opportunities officers in his Department will involve the setting up or the operation of an ethnic monitoring exercise, as recommended by the code of the Commission for Racial Equality.

The Attorney-General

As I said in my answer to the hon. and learned Member on 26 April, action in respect of ethnic monitoring in the three Departments for which I am responsible will be considered when the results of the surveys carried out in the north west and Avon have been evaluated.

Mr. Janner

asked the Attorney-General, pursuant to his reply of 14 May, Official Report, column 2, whether he will place a copy of the report referred to in the Library; and whether he will make a statement.

The Attorney-General

The report is being prepared by officials of the Cabinet Office and Her Majesty's Treasury and is, therefore, a matter for my hon. Friend the Minister with responsibility for the Civil Service.
