HC Deb 24 May 1984 vol 60 c517W
20. Mr. Adley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland on what basis he decides to reply to foreign Governments who express an interest in the affairs of the Province in terms other than by referring to the matter as an internal one of the United Kingdom Government.

Mr. Prior

Among the factors influencing my response to an expression of interest from any Government in the affairs of Northern Ireland will be the spirit in which it is offered, the extent to which it might beneficially influence events, and the nature of the underlying concern for the situation in the Province.

29. Rev. Martin Smyth

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what additional steps have been taken to project the United Kingdom's version of the events in Northern Ireland in the light of renewed efforts by the Republic of Ireland's Government to forward their case internationally for governing Northern Ireland.

Mr. Scott

Our diplomatic posts are always kept fully informed about the Government's policy on Northern Ireland and they were able to ensure that our initial reaction to the publication of the report of the New Ireland Forum was reflected in the press and broadcasting media abroad.
