§ 22. Mr. Conlanasked the Secretary of State for Defence what action he is taking to provide the Royal Navy's type 42 destroyers with a point defence weapon as announced in the 1983 "Statement of Defence Estimates".
§ Mr. LeeWe are evaluating the various options for the provision of point defence for the type 42 destroyer; both gun and missile solutions are being considered as options. I anticipate being able to make an announcement by the end of the year.
