§ Mr. Bidwell
asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received concerning the admission of part-time staff to the local government superannuation scheme; and what has been his reply.
§ Mr. Waldegrave
I have been asked to reply.
My right hon. Friend has received representations, and in particular a large number of letters, on this topic from Members of Parliament and individual employees, and from a range of organisations, including the TUC, NALGO, and local authorities and their associations. He has consistently stated that the problem remaining is the initial cost of the proposals, and that he will announce his decision as soon as the issues on this can be resolved.
