HC Deb 21 May 1984 vol 60 cc315-6W
Sir Raymond Gower

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what reports he has received concerning the origin and causes of deposits of dust over a large area of south Wales during the weekend of 21–22 April; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Prior to 1982 the boundaries of health authorities were co-terminous with those of the counties of Wales. The latest available perinatal and infant mortality data for the counties were provided in my answer on 12 December 1983 at column373–76.

Mr. Gareth Wardell

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what were the perinatal and infant mortality rates, respectively, for each social class where babies were born into married households for 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Data for 1982 and 1983 are not yet available. Data for 1980 and 1981 is given in the following table.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

None. I understand that it may have originated in North Africa and that there is no evidence that it was anything but completely harmless.
