HC Deb 21 May 1984 vol 60 c350W
Mr. Bowen Wells

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food why it is his intention to impose article 46 duties on French agricultural alcohol entering the United Kingdom.

Mrs. Fenner

It is for the Commission to decide whether or not to impose countervailing charges under article 46 of the Treaty of Rome. The United Kingdom, in common with several other member states, has asked the Commission to consider applying such charges on exports of French agricultural alcohol to redress the balance of the Community alcohol market, which has been disrupted by the national arrangements which operate in France. The Commission is expected to reach a decision shortly.
