HC Deb 17 May 1984 vol 60 cc227-8W
Mr. Lewis Stevens

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what percentage of the 1983 full-time work force in the European Economic Community member countries and the United States of America are women.

Mr. Alan Clark

The information requested on the full-time work force is only available for the European Community countries, and the latest relates to 1981:

People with a full-time occupation who were women
Country Per cent.
Belgium 30.0
Denmark 31.2
France 35.9
Germany 30.8
Greece 30.3
Italy 29.6
Netherlands 20.2
United Kingdom 29.2
All countries listed 30.8

The figures are derived from the European Community's labour force sample survey in spring 1981, and relate to people 'with an occupation' during the survey reference week who were reported as working full time. As this definition did not involve a fixed number of hours per week for all countries, comparisons should be made with some caution.

Data are not available for Ireland and Luxembourg.
