HC Deb 17 May 1984 vol 60 c212W
47. Mr. Chope

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will make a statement on the Government's policy towards alternative sources of funding for the British Broadcasting Corporation.

Mr. Hurd

We have no present plans to change the way in which the BBC's services are financed, except that it is proposed that the DBS joint project, in which it is foreseen that the BBC will have a half share, will be financed by subscription, with the possibility of supplement from advertising revenue.
