HC Deb 16 May 1984 vol 60 c168W
Mr. Pawsey

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) how many accidents have occured on motorways (a) in the United Kingdom and (b) in Warwickshire where a contraflow system was in operation during the past three years; how many vehicles and how many people were involved in these accidents in (a) the United Kingdom and (b) Warwickshire; what is the principle cause; and what action is proposed to reduce the number of such accidents;

(2) if there is now a requirement for the type of road surface to be recorded in accident statistics.

Mrs. Chalker

Details of the information recorded on accident reports is given on pages 25 to 27 of Road Accidents Great Britain 1982, a copy of which is in the Library.

The presence of an active contraflow system, the cause of the accident, and the age of the road surface are not recorded. I regret, therefore, that the information specifically requested is not available.
