asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how much his Department has spent on advertising in national and local newspapers, on television and in other printed journals in each of the past five years; and what is budgeted in the current financial year for such advertising.

[pursuant to his reply, 8 May 1984, c. 314]: The amount spent by the Treasury on advertising in national and local newspapers and in other printed journals in each of the past five years and the budget for the current financial year is shown in the following table. Television advertising was not used.
