HC Deb 14 May 1984 vol 60 c7W
Mr. Cyril D. Townsend

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has received from the English tourist board regarding the provision of services along the M25, in particular as to the number of service stations; what response he has made; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Chalker

I am considering the views of the English tourist board on services to be provided on the M25, together with a report by consultants commissioned by the Department. I hope to announce a decision shortly.

Mr. Proctor

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the provision of a motorway service station on the M25 at Thurrock.

Mrs. Chalker

The provision of a motorway service area in the vicinity of the Dartford tunnel is an important element in my strategy for services on M25. My initial proposal was for a site on the southern approaches to the tunnel at Dartford but difficulties have arisen about its suitability. I am further considering the merits of the site and an alternative at Aveley, Thurrock, to ensure that the best site is selected.
