HC Deb 14 May 1984 vol 60 c52W
Mr. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment, pursuant to the reply of 26 April, Official Report, column 600, when equal opportunities officers were designated within his Department; by whom such designation was made; and what the grades and duties of such officers are.

Mr. Gummer

Most of the equal opportunities officers are principals with personnel responsibilities. They were designated at the beginning of April at regional and head office level on lines agreed by senior personnel managers across the Department of Employment group. Their main responsibilities will be dealing with requests for information, advising managers on policies to further equality of opportunity and monitoring the results.
