asked the Secretary of State for Wales, pursuant to his reply of 26 April, Official Report, column 598, when equal opportunities officers were designated within his Department; by whom such designation was made; and what the duties and grades of such officers are.

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

An equal opportunities officer was designated in early April 1984 by the head of the personnel management division. The duties of the equal opportunities officer, a principal in the personnel management division, will be to promulgate and monitor equal opportunities policies, and provide information and advice to management, individual members of staff, the departmental trade union side and the Cabinet Office (MPO).
