§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Secretary of State for Employment how much his Department has spent on advertising in national and local newspapers, on television and in other printed journals in each of the past five years; and what is budgeted in the current financial year for such advertising.
§ Mr. Gummer[pursuant to his reply, 9 May 1984, Vol. 59, c. 341]: Expenditure on advertising by the Department for the past five years was as follows:
£ 1979–1980 72,922 1980–1981 320,707 1981–1982 409,462 1982–1983 361,226 1983–1984 499,040 The advertising budget for the current year is in the region of £549,000. The budget is directly related to proportion of Department of Employment special programmes to combat unemployment.
