Mr. Lawrence

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what were the countries of origin of the guns and ammunition found at the Libyan People's Bureau on 1 May; whether there is any evidence that they had been obtained legitimately in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Hurd

The guns and ammunition found at the Libyan People's Bureau which have so far been examined by the police were of United States, Italian and Spanish origin. Preliminary examination has revealed no evidence that any of them were obtained legitimately in the United Kingdom.
