Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many Libyan nationals have left the United Kingdom since the start of the incident at the Libyan people's bureau on 17 April.

Mr. Waddington

Approximately 370 up to 4 May 1984.

Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many Libyan nationals have been resident in the United Kingdom in each of the years since 1974.

Mr. Waddington

A reliable estimate of the number of Libyan nationals resident in the United Kingdom is not available. The 1981 census of population showed that 6,004 persons born in Libya were resident in Great Britain in early April 1981.
